28th Flitehook Indoor Flying 10AM-6PM Wallingford

28th Forest of Dean R/C Model Club
In response to members request for more R/C sport flying events the Forest of Dean R/C Model Club have kindly offered the use of their site for a one day event. This will be a R/C event only, the site is too close to the river for F/F. Flying will be restricted to vintage models, no ARTF please! BMFA insurance will be required so please ensure you have your card with you but there is no requirement for BMFA 'A' or 'B' certificates.
The site is at Woolaston 3.5 miles SW of Lydney adjacent to the A48 Gloucester to Lydney road. If travelling from Gloucester the site will be on your left and from Chepstow on the right. There is a public picnic area and toilets on the opposite side of the road and possibly a Burger van but bring your own refreshments to make sure of something to eat and drink. There is plenty of parking space but no driving across the flying field!
Further details and a map can be found on the Forest of Dean R/C Model Club Website

26th & 27th The Gala at Old Warden
Following on from last year's very successful 'Theme for a Dream' your committee has come up with 'Favourites of the 50's' for this year's Gala. This, just like last year's, is all embracing so any model of the period is eligible from Jetex to R/C even pulse jet ( but in this case not to be flown at OW!). Many of us over the years have fancied a particular design only to discover a later than 1950 publication date so have not built it. Now you can indulge yourself and pour through all the fantastic designs of what must be the best decade in UK aero modelling. There were 2 magazines for the whole period and many of the Model Aircraft designs have been neglected so now is the chance to build them.
If you have a copy, Vic Smeed's book; 'Favourites of the Fifties'; is an excellent place to start, packed as it is with pages of designs to inspire some building. Indeed the inspiration came from this book. I would guess that the majority of members started their aero modelling in this decade, so now you can indulge in your favourite model from your childhood. Don't be put off if a MA plan appears to be unavailable as most are by one means or another (if stuck let Andy Brough know). Another good thing for those who build power models, is that many of this decade's engines are available at not too silly prices so you should be able to find the original power plant.
The format will be as last year, model and story board in the pound both days of the Gala. We look forward to all the models that will be on display and indeed to those that will be flown. Andy Brough
